Asset Locating & Tracking |
Real Time Locating Systems (RTLS) are functionally comparable to Global Positioning
System (GPS) tracking, but while GPS generally does not work indoors, RTLS functions reliably
regardless of location and environment, and at a lower cost.
All locating systems provide a tag to attach to an object, animal or person that will provide
continuous identification and location data to a central location. What makes the our system
different is that it does not require tag readers or a "fixed" wired or wireless infrastructure.
Each tag can communicate with every other tag in the system, passing data from tag to tag
on demand. Any tag can initiate transmission or reception of data. A PC or Laptop can be
located anywhere in this network of tags to capture and process information and convert it into
intelligence. This system can be used to accurately locate and/or track any tag within the WLAN.
It is important to note that, although the system is entirely independent within it's own WLAN,
if a person or asset leaves this area it can be located or tracked using traditional methods
such as satellite GPS.

Each system, which can be monitored by one laptop, and can handle tens of
thousands of tags. The exact number depends upon the need for speed and the complexity of
sensor data transmitted. Two dimensional position data may be accurate enough for a single
floored warehouse or open field. However, if the warehouse is multilevel with many shelves,
then three-dimensional data might be necessary.
The absence of a fixed infrastructure reduces the cost and time to implement, and permits
flexible employment of RTLS resources.

MeshLink's solution can provide the tools to implement logistics for a complete supply-chain
network. Tags attached to items leaving the vendor's premises can carry all required
documentation in their memory, notify the vendors' network of their departure and monitor and
record environmental and other data of interest in transit. On arrival at the customer’s location,
the tags can automatically announce themselves, join the customer's network, and relay the
Vendor's documentation stored in memory plus any additional environmental or other data
acquired en-route.
